Enel Cuore is supporting the Municipality of Milan with a donation to the Fondo Mutuo Soccorso (Mutual Assistance Fund). The fund was set up by the city’s mayor Giuseppe Sala with the aim of providing immediate assistance to those experiencing serious difficulties due to the spread of coronavirus and, later, to support the city’s socio-economic recovery.

“During this critical moment for Italy, in which Lombardy and Milan have been particularly badly hit, Enel, through its charitable foundation Enel Cuore, wants to provide practical support for the hospitals, associations and the solidarity networks that are all working to contain this emergency,” announced Patrizia Grieco, Chairman of Enel and Enel Cuore (from May 2014 to May 2020). “We are an Italian multinational with deep roots throughout the country, and sustainability is a cornerstone of our strategy. Therefore it is natural, a duty even, that our company helps out in the areas in which we operate and the communities with which we work every day”.

“Thank you, Enel and the charity Enel Cuore for this contribution to the Fondo Mutuo Soccorso that we have set up,” declared Giuseppe Sala, mayor of Milan. “We don’t know how long the current emergency will last. What’s certain is that this situation has changed all of our lives and not only our habits. Many Milanese citizens today already find themselves in serious economic difficulty. Through the Fund we want to help them get back on their feet and overcome this awful period. To do this will require the support of their fellow citizens, the private sector and civic associations. Together we must help solidarity prevail over fear and apprehension, without ever giving up our faith in the future”.

The donation to the Municipality of Milan is part of a series of measures put together by Enel Cuore to face the coronavirus emergency and to support the main institutions and organisations involved in social assistance and healthcare in our country. The Enel Group’s charitable organisation has granted 23 million euro both to already identified projects and others yet to be selected and due to be chosen shortly, thanks to dialogue and continuous coordination with the Civil Protection agency and the national and regional authorities on the front line in the fight against the spread of the virus. These projects will provide immediate support to the activities that combat the health emergency and they will support the hospitals and healthcare structures that are fighting the epidemic in the country. Furthermore, the donations will be earmarked for organisations in the Third Sector and local administrations to guarantee the activities already under way and to support the next phase of recovery.
