On May 3rd, a new centre was inaugurated, where environmental sustainability, social inclusion and sustainable power supply are the key words.
Spazio Battirame is an important place for the community, not only for those who directly benefit from the centre (mainly people in disadvantaged situations) but also for the area in general, offering a welcoming environment where its guests can relax and enjoy the arts, crafts and nature.
Surrounded by four hectares of land, cultivated by the farmhouse guests and by Eta Beta employees, the strength and value of Spazio Battirame is in a series of activities that can be summarised with three “C’s”:
- Taking CARE of people, because we take care of others, their work, the tasks that each one of us carries out for the structure and its guests on a daily basis.
- Promoting CULTURE, by valuing everyone’s work, arts and crafts, gathering and recycling material to create objects and works, which can also be marketed.
- CULTIVATE, because we are committed to seasonal agriculture and to growing products that can be stored and served directly on our tables, as well as offering them to city purchase groups.
At the heart of these activities is a farmhouse that is open to everyone, encouraging social interaction and integration, amidst an urban garden that is cultivated according to organic farming principles. Spazio Battirame embraces cultural exchange and sharing, as well as training programmes in the arts, rural activities and professions of different kinds. Furthermore, the Battirame farmhouse will host meetings, courses and conferences organised with the University of Bologna Agriculture Department, to analyse issues related to sustainable agriculture and food.
We are delighted to have supported this valuable experience, not only because it offers therapeutic and rehabilitative programmes, as well as job placement initiatives (ranging from urban horticulture to craftsmanship, from beekeeping and apitherapy to food handling and distribution), but also due to the social and cultural integration of its guests and the community as a whole.
