The Foundation – along with the Istituzione Scuole e Nidi d’Infanzia (Pre-school and Day Care Institution) of the municipality of Reggio Emilia and Reggio Children srl – is part of the Reggio Emilia Approach practiced by the Loris Malaguzzi Centre Foundation: a place for those who wish to change and innovate education and culture through professional development and research in the Reggio Emilia region, in Italy and around the world.
The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy that was born in the early 1960’s in nursery’s and pre-schools of the Reggio Emilia region – which today are managed by the Istituzione Scuole e Nidi. The philosophy focuses on children and human beings in general as individuals with rights and the potential for development and the ability to learn and grow through their relationships with others. The centre is dedicated to the pedagogue Loris Malaguzzi, who promoted an educational approach (along with its local administrators) that has been adopted in many schools around the world.
The Foundation promotes education through participation and therefore offers a place that is open to dialogue with important local and international players in the field of education, the protection of children’s rights and childhood in general.
The Foundation’s research projects focus on the relationship between education and architecture, the promotion of educational exchanges, including teachers from different national and international environments , the search for opportunities that arise from the use of new technology in educational environments and the development of solidarity through research.
