Humanitarian care for children

There are countries in the world in great distress, suffering the consequences of wars, poverty and famine: unfortunately, as is often the case, the first to pay the price are the children, who lack the possibility of adequate medical care, with a very high level of infant mortality.

Fondazione Bambino Gesù, which has always been committed to the health of children and their families, seeks to accompany and support the work of doctors, researchers and health workers in order to give all children, even the most unfortunate, a chance at well-being.

This is precisely the area of focus of Humanitarian Care, the project we have chosen to support, which provides medical care for children from countries in great distress who would not otherwise have access to any care. Specifically, four months of outpatient care is provided for children from countries such as Uganda, Morocco, Libya, Nigeria, Syria, Eritrea, Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, Guatemala, Venezuela, Albania, Moldova, and other countries in North Africa and Southeast Asia.

The children can thus be entitled to the medical services they need, which begin with a screening upon entering the hospital: this screening includes tests and analyses such as blood count, cardiological examination, chemical analysis, and other investigations. There is an immediate, objective benefit of this project: the fact that so many minors are accessing medical tests and treatment for the first time, thus being able to heal or even prevent diseases that in their countries could have led to their death. Then there is also a secondary but no less important element: offering children not only medical care but attention, warmth, consideration, creating a real network of solidarity that intervenes in the short term on health, but in the long term on the general well-being of the children and their families.
