On 4 October 2022, the Casa di Quartiere San Bao will be inaugurated in Piazza delle Orchidee n. 21 at the former nursery school in the La Rosa neighbourhood, on the occasion of the celebrations of Saint Francis.
At 12 noon, the ribbon will be cut in the presence of the mayor of Brindisi Riccardo Rossi, Carmelina Grimaldi of Enel Cuore Onlus, Cristiana Zongoli president of the Naukleros ONLUS social cooperative that manages the space, the parish priest Don Mino Schena, and all the representatives of the entities and organisations collaborating in the programme of activities of the innovation space. At 6 p.m., a big neighbourhood party is planned with circus artists, music and popular dance. The house thus opens its doors to the citizens, who are invited to visit the space and learn about the activities that will be activated in the coming weeks.
The Casa di Quartiere San Bao managed by the Naukleros ONLUS social cooperative was renovated thanks to the support of Enel Cuore, the Enel Group's ONLUS. The former nursery school is part of the Case di Quartiere network, the project of the Municipality of Brindisi, financed by the POR Puglia 2014-2020 Action 3.2 and 9.3 Hub of Social Innovation, dedicated to the valorisation and re-functionalisation of eleven properties between the city centre and outskirts. The property in question benefits from a communication, furniture and equipment plan.
The cultural space, with its Oriental-inspired name, intends to offer a series of activities geared towards the well-being of body, mind and spirit of all ages.
"Inaugurating a meeting place is an important milestone for our community. Le Case di Quartiere is a project that was born with the spirit of supporting and enhancing meeting and participation spaces such as the former school located in La Rosa, which, supported on its path, can only grow and become recognisable in the neighbourhood and beyond. I wish the Casa di Quartiere San Bao a good life and may it generate the wellbeing it promotes with its activities," said Mayor Riccardo Rossi.
"With the Casa di Quartiere San Bao we are giving back to Brindisi a place to meet and relate, an inclusive reality for the area, accessible to all," says Filippo Rodriguez, Managing Director of Enel Cuore. "The country needs projects dedicated to people, especially those who live in fragile conditions or in particularly difficult peripheral social contexts. That is where we must intervene and that is why Enel Cuore will continue to support virtuous initiatives that focus on caring for the individual and his or her needs".
The opening day will continue in the evening, starting at 6 p.m., with a big neighbourhood and city party. Artists from the EDC Circus Artist company, in collaboration with the TABARIN circus school, will be present with their shows: stilt-walkers, jugglers and fire artists will contribute to making the evening magical and special for young and old. Dancers from the traditional folk music group Addù Sciamu Sciamu from Brindisi and musicians from the group Sang'Amaru from Mesagne will also join the celebrations.
"In the Casa di Quartiere, citizens will be able to have a place where they can feel at home, with spaces dedicated to reading, workshops for children, and intergenerational activities for learning ancient crafts," says Cristiana Zongoli, president of Naukleros ONLUS. "The space's project sees the collaboration of numerous associations, cooperatives, and individual citizens who will propose their own calendar of activities.
