Our collaboration with the Community of Sant'Egidio began in 2004, and today to see the Viva gli Anziani! project recognized at the European level as excellence in its field is an important achievement for all involved.

The designation was officially conferred on October 10, 2022, in Brussels by the European Commission, which called the "Viva gli Anziani!" program and the Community of Sant'Egidio a "European Site for Policies for Healthy and Active Aging." And that has always been the goal of the project, which was created precisely in response to the high mortality rate in the summer of 2003 throughout Europe: to counter the social isolation of the older population by creating a proximity network that can provide medical care, solidarity support made up of home services, activities and shrewdness that aim to prevent the onset of potential problems (such as heat waves, flu epidemics or home falls).

And the solidarity is also visible in the data: there are 45,000 activists who, as volunteers, doctors, doormen, tradesmen, neighbors and family caregivers, have taken part in the project helping more than 28,103 over-80s with more than 1,278,086 interventions through phone calls, home visits, delivery of food and meals to homes, support in completing paperwork and public events.

A chain of solidarity that has reached the rest of Europe, and will continue to work for the well-being of the elderly.
