Capitignano (AQ) 19 October 2022 - A park equipped as an open-air laboratory for studying the sky and the earth is now active at the state nursery school of Capitignano, thanks to the "Fare Scuola" project carried out by Fondazione Reggio Children and supported by Enel Cuore Onlus.

This is one of ten projects planned and implemented in the area of the seismic crater. From the small geodesic sphere to observe the celestial vault to the vegetable gardenmicro-laboratories designed specifically to allow girls and boys to approach the natural elements with empathy and curiosity have been installed in the external space of the redeveloped nursery school. The inauguration of the new environment took place a few weeks after the resumption of school activities in the presence of the Mayor of Capitignano, Franco Pucci, the municipal administrators, the school director Paola Verini, the parish priest Don Ever and the General Secretary of Enel Cuore Onlus, Angelica Carnelos.

“I thank Enel Cuore Onlus and the Fondazione Reggio Children for this opportunity offered to our community and to our children. A project that represents an important result for our community and makes studying more stimulating" declared the Mayor Franco Pucci.

“With this new initiative, we wanted to make a concrete contribution to promoting a return to normal by creating a stimulating environment for children in a location severely tested by the earthquakes that hit central Italy. A sign of hope that makes school not only a place of learning, but also a space in which to foster inclusive relationships", said Angelica Carnelos, General Secretary of Enel Cuore Onlus.

“The wonder and amazement of childhood are the first levers for learning and knowledge. This is what the educational spaces created with the "Fare Scuola" project look to - says Carla Rinaldi, President of Fondazione Reggio Children. This environment is particularly full of opportunities, designed for the kindergarten of Capitignano, where girls and boys, like little scientists, with their educators and with scientific instruments within their reach can enter into a dialogue of continuous discovery."

The project, designed by the landscape architect Chiara Caberletti, was created to enhance the outdoor area near the building. The space has been rethought in dialogue with the characteristics of the territory, allowing explorations protected from the elements, in which girls and boys can approach the climate and the environment as if on a journey to discover the world in which they are immersed. So here is that a rain gauge becomes a small rainwater tank useful for watering plants, an anemometer indicates the wind through its leaves, a blackboard thermometer-barometer gathers food for thought. Mirroring surfaces and telescopes to explore the sky, a small geodesic sphere, but also a greenhouse, a long pier to observe the landscape, a vegetable garden with a workbench for experiments and preparations, a dial, sundial, to know the flow of the time, light and shadows.

"FARE SCUOLA" is a project promoted by Enel Cuore Onlus and Fondazione Reggio Children with the aim of improving the quality of school environments - as learning contexts and places for relationships - by intervening in kindergartens and primary schools throughout the National territory. The project brings into dialogue the experience of educational quality of Fondazione Reggio Children with the knowledge of contexts of social hardship of Enel Cuore Onlus.
