Bergamo, one of the cities most affected by the Covid-19-related health emergency, has seen an extraordinary increase in hospital and healthcare needs. To cope with this critical situation, an intervention was put in place that included both an increase in the number of beds available for home isolation of stabilized patients and the strengthening of activities at Humanitas Gavazzeni Hospital. Thanks to our support, new spaces dedicated to home isolation in hotel facilities were created, meeting the needs of those patients who, although no longer requiring intensive care, needed a safe and monitored environment to complete their convalescence. At the same time, Humanitas Gavazzeni Hospital was able to strengthen its staff, acquire personal protective equipment (PPE), oxygen and other essential materials for patient management, as well as ensure the sanitization of hospital areas. These measures have had a significant impact on the Bergamo health system's ability to respond to the emergency, offering concrete help to both patients and health workers engaged on the front lines.
