The Emilia-Romagna health care system, like that of many other regions, has faced unprecedented challenges in ensuring adequate care in emergency settings. The need for intensive care beds, pre-triage space, and access to critical tools and aids has become urgent to cope with health crises and ensure care for an increasing number of patients. With the coordination of the Emilia-Romagna Regional Agency for Territorial Security and Civil Protection, we supported a plan to upgrade five strategic healthcare facilities: the Guglielmo da Saliceto Hospital in Piacenza, the Infermi Hospital in Rimini, the Maggiore Hospital and the Sant'Orsola Polyclinic in Bologna, and the Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova in Reggio Emilia. The intervention aims to: Set up new intensive care beds, expanding the capacity to receive and treat critically ill patients. Establish pre-triage facilities for initial reception activities, enabling better organization of flows and effective management of emergencies. Acquire essential aids and equipment to ensure high-quality care and respond to health needs in a timely manner. This project represents a significant investment in public health and safety, strengthening the regional health system and improving responsiveness in critical situations.
