In some areas of our country, growing up is a challenge from the very beginning. In neighborhoods such as Tor Bella Monaca, in Rome, economic hardship, social isolation, and a lack of services and support networks make it more difficult for many families to ensure their children have a peaceful and stimulating childhood. This is where educational poverty begins to take root, often in the very early years of life, compromising children's futures and widening social gaps. We believe that every child should have equal opportunities from birth, which is why we have chosen to support the ‘Da Zero a Mille’ (From Zero to a Thousand) project, run by the Pianoterra ETS Association, an organization that since 2008 has been dedicated to helping the most vulnerable families with care and expertise, focusing on the well-being and development of young children, particularly those aged 0-6. Pianoterra has been active in Tor Bella Monaca since 2021, with a permanent educational center that has already become a point of reference for many mothers and fathers. With “Da Zero a Mille,” the association's commitment is expanding and strengthening: we want to offer concrete support to 120 families with children between the ages of 0 and 3, accompanying them on a path of growth made up of care, listening, and new opportunities. At the heart of the project is the “Aula Vicina” (Neighboring Classroom), a protected, open, welcoming space where relationships are forged and trust is built. Here, the following are activated: reception and orientation desks to help parents access the most suitable public and private services; group meetings with experts to strengthen parenting skills and tackle everyday difficulties together; parent/child educational workshops ranging from psychomotor skills to free play, music, and art; recreational events and activities involving the whole community to forge bonds and a sense of community. The goal is clear: to intervene early, when children are still very young, to prevent hardship and build a solid foundation for the future. We want every child, even those born into difficult circumstances, to have the opportunity to develop their full potential and arrive at preschool with the right tools to succeed.
