Every child who enters the hospital brings with them fears, questions, and the desire to return to their daily lives as soon as possible. For this reason, it is important that care is not limited to medical treatment, but embraces the whole person: body, emotions, and relationships. Since 1994, the Giuditta and Demetrio De Marchi ETS Foundation has been caring for young patients at the De Marchi Pediatric Clinic of the Policlinico di Milano hospital. Alongside doctors and healthcare professionals, the Foundation offers psychological, welfare, and human support, with the aim of making the treatment process more peaceful. Lights, colors, games, moments of socializing, and study become an integral part of therapy, helping to reduce anxiety and discomfort and promoting faster and more peaceful recovery. We have chosen to support the project “The most beautiful pediatric ward in the world,” which aims to build a place where treatment goes hand in hand with smiles. Thanks to the redevelopment project of the Policlinico di Milano hospital, 18,000 square meters of pediatric spaces will be created, completely redesigned for children and their families. Studio Fabio Novembre, winner of the competition launched by the Foundation, has imagined a veritable “children's city”: avenues, domestic environments, playrooms, classrooms, a zoo, and even a skatepark. There will be spaces for study, hobbies, and games, but also areas dedicated to parents, designed as meeting places and equipped for remote working. Because those who accompany children on their journey through treatment also deserve practical support. With “The most beautiful pediatric ward in the world,” we want every child to feel welcome, protected, and free to continue dreaming.
