Caritas Roma, together with its Foundation, promotes numerous social services and projects in favor of disadvantaged groups in the city of Rome through reception centers, housing communities, family homes, soup kitchens, health centers, and listening centers. The Caritas Roma Foundation has promoted an important initiative aimed at redeveloping the building complex owned by Roma Capitale, located within the Villa Glori park. The project aims to create an “Integrated Center” capable of offering innovative services to combat poverty and complex fragility. The Integrated Center will house the following services: “Casa Alloggio Villa Glori” for the reception of homeless people discharged from healthcare facilities (17 people); “Casa Alloggio Don Luigi” for the reception of HIV patients without a social network (8 people); “Padiglione Don Orione” for the reception of people in extreme social fragility (10 places); “Casa Wanda” day center for people with Alzheimer's and senile dementia (20 people); “Casa Itaca” for a cohousing project (6 people). Caritas Roma has asked Enel Cuore to allocate funds for the redevelopment of the interior and exterior spaces of the structure known as “Casa Alloggio Villa Glori.” In particular, the pavilion of approximately 920 square meters that houses the “Casa Alloggio Villa Glori” will be completely renovated in order to offer social and health care, accommodation, and rehabilitation services to homeless people and those who are alone, in need, and in extreme poverty, coming from hospitals under protected discharge. The aim is to provide safe spaces for vulnerable people who are unable to manage the post-acute phase of an illness independently, while at the same time supporting an integrated social, health, and housing support service aimed at achieving the greatest possible independence for the beneficiaries of the project. The renovation work will create two housing units: one to accommodate up to 10 users and one to accommodate up to 7 users. Each housing unit will have independent access, bedrooms with bathrooms, a kitchen and common areas, an infirmary, a laundry room, and rooms for interviews. It is estimated that the launch of the new service could reduce the number of inappropriate visits to the emergency rooms of ASL Roma 1 hospitals by 5%. On December 15, in the presence of Don Alessandro Caserio, President of the Caritas Roma Foundation, and Giustino Trincia, Director of Caritas Roma, Enel Cuore Managing Director Andrea Valcalda participated in the groundbreaking ceremony.
