Sports provide a vital space for growth, connection, and independence. But for many children and young people with disabilities, access to sports activities is still neither easy nor guaranteed: they need personalized programs, competent support staff, and an educational network capable of truly accompanying every young person on their journey. It is from this awareness that the commitment of CSV Emilia ODV stems - an association based in Parma that promotes a culture of volunteering in the provinces of Piacenza, Parma, and Reggio Emilia. Through an approach focused on the individual and the local community, CSV Emilia supports inclusion programs for children with cognitive, motor, and sensory disabilities, building a support network around each child consisting of mentors, local liaisons, families, and sports clubs. Through the “All Inclusive Sport” project, we support an initiative aimed at promoting the inclusion of approximately 265 children and adolescents, primarily between the ages of 6 and 15, in the province of Reggio Emilia. The participants, referred by the AUSL’s Neuropsychiatry Services, schools, Social Services, or families, often come from vulnerable backgrounds or more disadvantaged areas, such as the Reggio Apennines. The project aims to increase the number of young people participating in sports activities (from 240 to 265), reduce waiting lists, involve new sports associations, and strengthen mentoring efforts, thereby making sports activities increasingly accessible and sustainable. In addition to promoting participation in sports, “All Inclusive Sport” also fosters personal autonomy, provides training for at least 100 coaches, managers, and volunteers, enhances the dedicated digital platform, and organizes awareness-raising initiatives on disability, sports, and inclusion. Our support aims to strengthen this model of inclusion, helping to expand and better structure the support network that accompanies young people on their journey in sports and personal growth. This concrete assistance offers more and more children and adolescents the chance to feel part of a community, develop their skills, and gain greater autonomy, step by step.
