Pregnancy, when it comes at an unexpected or difficult time, can become a source of fear, loneliness, and uncertainty. For many women, especially those in more vulnerable situations, having someone by their side can make all the difference. With this spirit, the Buzzi Life Support Center has been operating since 2012 inside the Buzzi Children’s Hospital in Milan as a point of reference for women facing a difficult pregnancy. The association offers two types of support: psychological support for women who choose to voluntarily terminate their pregnancy, accompanying them through a moment that is often painful and complex; alternative and complementary pathways for women who decide to continue their pregnancy, helping them do so with greater peace of mind and support. Each intervention begins with meeting each woman individually, with full respect for her story, her doubts, and her choices. With our support, we aim to ensure the continuity of services dedicated to the most vulnerable families over the next two years. The Center provides a wide range of free support services, including: material and financial support through the child’s first three years of life, such as diapers, formula, clothes, strollers, toys, and more; job guidance for mothers and/or partners facing financial difficulties; free housing before and after childbirth for those without a home; parenting support and assistance during family crises; legal counseling for women who are victims of domestic violence. Every year, around 250 women find in the Center a safe place where they can receive care, concrete help, and respectful, personalized support. Through this project, we want to help keep alive a vital protection network for many women and families, so that no one feels alone when facing a difficult choice.
