Parco Gioia: an inclusive space in Partinico

The availability of inclusive spaces dedicated to people with disabilities and their families, where rehabilitation activities and opportunities for social interaction can coexist, plays an important role in building more accessible communities. With this goal in mind, we support the “Parco Gioia” project, promoted by Associazione Italiana Assistenza Spastici ETS - Partinico. The initiative involves the creation of an inclusive park for people with moderate to severe disabilities on a 1,000-square-meter plot of land donated by a private individual. The area will be made available to people attending the day center managed by the Association, which operates in a property confiscated from organized crime. The land where Parco Gioia will be developed is located opposite the day center. The project includes the installation of inclusive play equipment and the construction of an accessible swimming pool where rehabilitation activities will be carried out with TMA professionals (Multisystemic Therapy in Water, an approach that uses water as an emotional, sensory, and motor stimulus). Part of the site will also be dedicated to social farming. Associazione Italiana Assistenza Spastici ETS - Partinico has been active since 2010 in the Municipality of Partinico, in the province of Palermo, where it has established a neuromotor rehabilitation center for people with disabilities. Its aim is to support local families and reduce the need for them to travel to Palermo to access rehabilitation services. Thanks to a qualified staff working alongside social volunteers and to contributions from private supporters, the Association provides care for people with neurodevelopmental disorders throughout different stages of growth, with particular attention to behavioral and learning disorders and speech and language impairments. Parco Gioia will be available to the 20 adults currently attending the day center, the 30 children receiving rehabilitation services at AIAS Partinico, and their families. The park will also be open to the local community on designated days, with the aim of creating an inclusive shared space for the wider community. Our contribution will support part of the work planned under the project, helping fund the construction of the rehabilitation pool, the preparation of the area dedicated to social farming, and the installation of inclusive play equipment. We believe that creating accessible and shared spaces means offering new opportunities for well-being and independence to people with disabilities, while also involving families and the wider community in a shared path toward inclusion.
