Creating spaces that bring together culture, social connection, and opportunities for inclusion means giving people places where they can meet, develop new skills, and actively participate in community life. With this goal in mind, we support the “Museo del 900 Arona incontra Abilito Food - Luoghi di senso per la comunità” project, promoted by Il Ponte Società Cooperativa Sociale. Through a major urban regeneration and architectural restoration project in the historic former slaughterhouse area, the cooperative recently returned an early 20th-century building to the city: the Fanny Usellini Museum. Alongside its artistic dimension, the museum will have a strong educational and social role, hosting workshops and artistic, theatrical, and musical activities for people with disabilities, young people, families, and local schools. Active since 1988 and based in Invorio, in the province of Novara, Il Ponte Società Cooperativa Sociale has developed a civil economy model based on a vision of food not only as nourishment, but also as a tool for culture, care, and impact. Through its projects, the cooperative turns the food supply chain into an opportunity for social empowerment and sustainability, offering vocational training and employment opportunities to people experiencing vulnerable conditions. By involving people with disabilities or other forms of vulnerability, Il Ponte Società Cooperativa Sociale will manage visitor reception, museum opening and closing, the café and refreshment areas, as well as maintenance and cleaning services. The museum is in fact organized into closely integrated functional areas, including the social café on the ground floor, where training experiences, employment pathways, and work placement grants will be offered to young people with disabilities. The food offering will also be closely aligned with the project’s values, with particular attention to local supply chains, environmental sustainability, and the social economy. Each year, 8 people with disabilities or other forms of vulnerability will be actively involved through 5 PASS programs (Socio-Sustainable Activation Projects) and/or internships in the food service area. The project will also provide 400 hours per year of employment support and independence-building programs, with the aim of fostering social and employment inclusion and helping participants develop practical skills. Our contribution will support the outfitting of the food service area, helping cover the costs of furniture and equipment. We strongly believe that spaces like this can become much more than places to meet: they can become meaningful places for the community, creating opportunities, recognizing people’s potential, and turning vulnerability into new possibilities.
