Every day, thousands of people live with complex eye conditions that threaten their vision and, with it, their quality of life. These are often rare, genetic, or degenerative diseases that require delicate procedures, advanced technologies, and a highly specialized team. In this scenario, access to effective and timely treatment can make the difference between light and darkness. It is in this spirit that we have chosen to support the Bietti Foundation ONLUS, an Italian center of excellence in the field of ophthalmology and a national scientific and clinical reference point. Founded with the mission of combining research, care, and innovation, the Bietti Foundation is currently the only IRCCS (Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization, and Healthcare) recognized in Italy for ophthalmology. In addition to collaborating with important Italian and international institutions, the Foundation operates daily at the British Presidium of the San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital in Rome, where it offers outpatient, surgical, and highly specialized services. Since 2008, it has performed over 50,000 outpatient procedures and more than 5,000 complex surgical operations, often crucial in saving patients' sight. This commitment has been made possible thanks to the use of cutting-edge technology and a team of dedicated doctors, researchers, and operators. The project we are supporting today looks even further ahead: thanks in part to our contribution, the Foundation will be able to acquire an intraoperative OCT module, an innovative technology that allows real-time visualization of ocular structures during surgery, with unprecedented precision. This equipment, used in highly delicate areas such as retinal, glaucoma, and corneal surgery, will not only increase the number of patients who can be treated, but also reduce the invasiveness of procedures, thus improving clinical outcomes and reducing risks. It is estimated that at least 600 of the approximately 3,000 surgeries performed annually by the Foundation will directly benefit from the introduction of OCT. Supporting this project means making a concrete contribution to protecting a precious asset that is often taken for granted: sight. It means believing in medicine that combines innovation and humanity, precision and care, science and hope.
