Work can be the most powerful tool for social redemption, capable of restoring dignity, security, and confidence in the future, but for many young people in difficult circumstances or without prospects, entering the world of work is still a distant goal. The Associazione Amici di Edoardo ETS was founded in Milan in 1996 in memory of Edoardo Kihlgren, with the aim of creating spaces for young people to meet and grow. A meeting with Don Gino Rigoldi led to the creation of the Barrio's social center in the Barona district, which today is a reference point for over 60,000 young people, a place where culture, solidarity, and training intertwine every day. Since 2012, the Association has been committed to the training and job placement of young NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), both Italian and foreign. In 2019, this experience led to the creation of the Bottega di Quartiere social enterprise in Milan, which offers stable and skilled employment to young people in difficulty in the maintenance, construction, plant engineering, carpentry, and corporate butler services sectors. Thanks to this initiative, 27 young people have been hired on permanent contracts and the company has seen steady growth in its business and sustainability. Encouraged by the results achieved in Milan, the Association decided to replicate the model in the capital with the creation of Bottega di Quartiere Roma, officially established on May 21, 2025. The aim of the project, which we have chosen to support, is to train and hire young Italian and foreign NEETs in situations of economic and social hardship on permanent contracts, offering them a concrete path to growth and independence. The project involves: 6-month training courses in various professional fields: electrician, plumber, painter, locksmith, carpenter; activities related to corporate butler services; soft skills courses to strengthen interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. At the end of the first year of activity, 12 young people will be hired on permanent contracts, with the aim of reaching 20–25 employees hired in the first five years. The “Bottega” is not just a workplace, but a training ground for life and community, where training, professionalism, and solidarity come together.
