Every child has the right to grow up surrounded by love, care, and opportunities. Unfortunately, there are children who live in extremely fragile situations, such as physical or cognitive disabilities, abandonment, or separation from their families, and who risk remaining invisible, without a place that can truly welcome them. Since 2015, the Killìa Social Cooperative, based in Cagliari, has been working in southern Sardinia alongside the most vulnerable people, particularly the elderly and people with disabilities. It does so through innovative services such as pet therapy and personalized educational programs, offered in day centers and schools in the area. The personal and professional experience of the president, Simona Cao, gave rise to the idea of a family home dedicated to the most vulnerable children, those whom social services often define as “unplaceable” due to the complexity of their conditions. We have therefore chosen to support this important project. The Killìa Family Home is located in Selargius (CA), in a building granted on a free 30-year lease. The facility is dedicated to providing residential care for minors with moderate to severe disabilities, orphans, or children temporarily removed from their families and taken into care by social services. It can accommodate up to five children at a time, offering them emotional, social, and therapeutic care to improve their well-being and, in the long term, increase their chances of adoption. The project is divided into two phases: Renovation and adaptation of the building, which began in 2023 and is nearing completion. Launch of the reception service, which includes: the purchase of furniture and social and health care equipment necessary for the opening of the facility, the purchase, by Enel Cuore, of a 9-seater vehicle equipped for the transport of disabled children in wheelchairs.
