We support Casa Do Menor in Mondovì in creating social and employment inclusion pathways for vulnerable people, with a focus on sustainability and community. There are places that can become much more than physical spaces: they can turn into points of reference for a community, bringing together social inclusion, work, relationships, and environmental awareness. This is the vision behind Be human be green, a project focused on people facing greater vulnerability and on creating concrete pathways toward independence and participation around them. Casa Do Menor Italia ETS, founded in 1986 by Father Renato Chiera, works to offer a better future to people experiencing vulnerable conditions. Active in Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, and Italy, the organization works to combat poverty and social exclusion and promotes initiatives related to social farming, biodiversity, and cultural development, in collaboration with local institutions and organizations. In Mondovì, at the Monastery of San Biagio, Casa Do Menor carries out activities that bring together solidarity, hospitality, and local development. Through the “Be human be green” project, the organization aims to transform the Monastery of San Biagio into a permanent hub for social inclusion, community well-being, and environmental sustainability. The project includes improvements to both indoor and outdoor spaces, the removal of architectural barriers, the creation of a café also managed by people facing vulnerable conditions, and the establishment of a retail space dedicated to products from the Monastery, including honey, beer, natural cosmetics, handicrafts, books, and items made from olive wood from Bethlehem. Alongside the infrastructure improvements, the project will activate social and employment inclusion pathways for people with disabilities, psychological distress, addictions, or those eligible for alternatives to incarceration. Participants will receive training and support in activities related to the care and maintenance of the historic orchard and hop field, the processing of agricultural products, and the routine maintenance of the Monastery’s spaces. The model aims to generate lasting social value, also through the sale of products at the Monastery’s retail space and through partnerships with local shops and businesses that promote ethical and short supply chains. Our contribution supports the work needed to make the Monastery of San Biagio more accessible, welcoming, and functional. It will help fund the renovation of the cloister, the creation of the café and its equipment, and part of the personnel costs related to the project. This practical support is intended to foster inclusion, social and employment opportunities, and new forms of participation for people facing greater vulnerability.
